Yeah, sorry about those tasteless comments I made earlier. Nothing personal, but are you guys new to these internet boards? Throwing insults is really the norm. Gets the blood flowing eh? On a side note if I give you my address can you send me some maple syrup?

Final Four pretender. UVM isn't pretending anything. We are who we are - as a college and a academic university. We are what is right with college sports and academics.

It is comical to see the rants from SU posters regarding lowly Vermont. Bitter taste since 05 has gotta

Pretender? Where did you come up with that term? You probably didn't watch ESPN after the Selection show, where just about everybody had Cuse in their Final Four. How about the guys on CBS, who ALL selected Cuse for their Final Four. How do you win 28 of 32 games and suddenly become a "pretender" (still don't know what that means). Oh I get it, you go to the web forum of an opposing mid-major and listen to their scrambling fans. 87-58 Cuse will win.

I came up with" pretender " all on my own because it 's my opinion. I've seen all the shows and I don't have them there. The loss of your center is going to impact them deeply, again IMO.
I LIKE Syracuse - always have. From NY originally. I've met Bernie Fine , I had a younger brother work out for SU hoops staff, of course I'm talking the 80's.
Sorry... they stumble this year before the Final 4 ( and yes it won't be Friday) Good luck to you anyway

Oh, idk about 87-58.. The Cats are a capable team that does have an outside chance against the 'Cuse but I'll say the final will be more like 75-63. They really don't have the size needed to stay with us the whole game. I'd say 38-37 'Cuse at the half with 'Cuse pulling away gradually 2nd half.

Cooper: But if I were you, rstone, I might stay away from geography jokes, though, considering Vermont is RIGHT NEXT TO NEW YORK!

I know, I know.. Take 89 north, then take the ferry to Plattsburgh. follow 190 west to 11 west, you'll come to Malone. That's where I grew up. So there you have some ammo finally. Been to Burlington more time than I can count without taking my shoes off

Hi just visiting from Syracuse boards. Hoping you all realize that in fact there will be a totally different result to this game than when these two teams last met...?

Well the reason I'm posting is not due to fear but I simply wanted to be one of the 6 people that use the Vt board.

But seriously good luck in Buffalo. BTW, where is Vermont? It's in Canada right? Well, I guess nobody posts here cuz yer all out tapping trees huh? After all, it's almost spring...

rstone you donkey, you say your from Malone right? Thats nearly in Canada, 15 minutes on route 30 and your in Canada, so nice joke. Its funny how you Syracuse guys are so bitter about losing to Vermont. Not to mention we have been a very good mid major program since 2003. As for the 2005 season Vermont was in the top 40 for the AP top 25 from week 9 to the last week of the rankings. We had a very good team, I'm sorry we made you cry that day. For Friday, You are expected to win! How do you get off on talking S***? You are a high major program. You get some top talent year after year. You come over here and talk like this is some big rivalry trying to sound smart because your upset over a loss 5 seasons ago. UVM has nothing to lose on Friday they are going to play like hell and try for an upset. Syracuse on the other hand you have everything to lose. Chances are you guys won't lose and you shouldn't. On Friday morning wake up early, make some pancakes and pour lots of aunt jamimas all over it.

Ahh, Malone- you must be familiar with maple sugaring!

Have to agree that Vermont's chance of winning is slim and not just _base_d on the odds of the 16/1 seedings, but there's always a chance.

Regardless who wins, rstone, our maple syrup will always taste better than yours!

Anybody else bummed that Crenca won't be going up against Onuaku?

Nah, I want to see our "Big Ben" look alike (aka Hulk) Garrett Kissel get fired up and smash whoever he is guarding. The kid is a beast and was really fired up vs BU.

Kissel was ready but it would still be nice to have the extra body against cuse.

On a side note, how about the Boeheim pic on the homepage.....HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Did Craig Sager go back in time and pick out his suit? It seems like it would be an easy choice between Longergan and Boeheim if you were casting for a revenge of the nerds sequel but that suit changes everything!

1 VOTE FOR RETRO BOEHEIM!!

The University of Vermont men’s basketball team had one of its best outside shooting performances of the season during its win over Boston University in the America East Conference championship game.

The Catamounts will need to stay red hot from the perimeter Friday to be competitive against Syracuse and its deadly zone defense in the NCAA tournament.

If the Cats have any hopes of pulling off another upset of the Orange in the “Big Dance,” they will need to crack head Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim’s vaunted scheme, one that was influential in winning a national championship in 2003 and helped his team earn the No.¤1 seed this year for the first time since 1980.

Instead of the more popular man-to-man defense, Syracuse employs a basic 2-3 match-up zone: Three guarding the _base_line, the other two patrolling the space near the foul line.

“You know exactly what to expect when you play Syracuse,” UVM junior guard Joey Accaoui said. “We know they are going to play that zone; spread it out and make us take tough shots.”

When Vermont stunned Syracuse five years ago in the NCAA tournament, T.J. Sorrentine poured in five of the Cats’ seven 3-pointers, including a 28-footer in overtime.

Outside shooting hasn’t been UVM’s forte this season; it was the second-worst 3-point shooting team in the America East this season.

But the Catamounts knocked down 8 of 14 3-point attempts Saturday in an 83-70 win over Boston University for the _title_, which propelled the Cats into their fourth NCAA tournament in eight years.

Friday, they will be up against a match-up zone defense Boheim has spent three decades making famous. The Orange held opponents to 39 percent shooting this season, second best in the high-powered Big East Conference.

“It’s more than a just zone,” UVM coach Mike Lonergan said about Syracuse. “It’s just the length and athleticism of their players in the zone. They force you to shoot from 28 feet away because they are so long.”

While Lonergan will look to his backcourt — Accaoui, Maurice Joseph and Nick Vier — to connect from the outside, he said he won’t abandon the idea of working the ball into standout forward Marqus Blakley.

“We still want to get Marqus touches and Evan (Fjeld) touches,” Lonergan said. “We want try to get the ball at the foul-line area a lot.”

“That’s where the 2-3 is vulnerable,” Fjeld said. “We have to get the ball there to kick it out or look down low to Marqus. Try to attack the zone.”
